AQA GCSE Visible Light(Physics)

Visible Light

White light is made up of seven different colours. This can be shown with the visible light spectrum.

These colours are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

Each colour within the visible light spectrum has its own range  of wavelength and frequency.

So red light has a different frequency and wavelength compared to orange light and so on.

Visible light spectrum showing wavelength and frequency for different colour of light

From Red light to violet light, as wavelength decreases and frequency increases, this is an inversely proportional relationship

Remembering the colours

Mnemonic to remember the colours of visible light, richard of york gave battle in vain, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet

Practice Question
