Explain using ideas of levers why using a wheelbarrow makes it easier to move a load such as heavy soil.

Wheel barrow moments answer

The line of action of force is a long distance from the pivot. This means that the wheelbarrow acts as a force multiplier. This makes it easier to carry the heavy load.

2. Use the image below to help you to answer the following question

rowing boat with oars

Explain why using a longer oar is helpful when rowing the boat

The hollow ring on the side of the boat that the oar passes through will act as a pivot. Using a longer oar will increase the distance between the line of action of the force and the pivot, this causes a force multiplier effect.
