Answers to AQA GCSE Dynamos (Physics)

Practice Questions

1.A dynamo is used to produce a current that flows in one direction, or constantly changes direction?

Direct current, flows in one direction only.

2. Describe how the construction of  dynamo is different to that of an alternator

A dynamo has a similar construction to a  alternator, but it has a split ring commutator, instead of slip rings.

3. Explain how a dynamo is used to produce an induced potential difference across the ends of the coil.

As the coil turns in the magnetic field it will cut the magnetic field lines and induce a potential difference across the ends of the coil.If this is part of a complete circuit, then a current will flow.
