Drawing Ray diagrams for a concave lens
The concave lens is represented by a vertical line with the arrows pointing inwards. The position of the object is added onto the diagram, this should be located between F and 2F.
From the object draw a diagonal ray line that passes through the centre of the lens as shown below.
Now draw a horizontal ray line from the object to the concave lens as shown below.
A diagonal line is now drawn from F on the left of the lens, through the lens, meeting with the horizontal ray line that you have just drawn.
However, from F to the lens, this should be a dotted line. Beyond the lens, it should be a solid line. See the image below.
Between F and the lens, where the dotted line meets the solid line there is a peak of a triangle. Here, you will draw the arrow for the virtual image, as shown below.
The diagram is now complete. The image formed is virtual, upright and smaller than the object.
