1.State the definition of velocity

Velocity is the speed of an object in a given direction.

2. Describe how speed and velocity are different.

Speed is a scalar quantity, so it has a magnitude (size)only. Velocity is a vector quantity so it has both a magnitude and direction. 

3. Marie is on a big wheel fairground ride travelling at 4m/s. Explain why she can have a constant speed of 4m/s, but her velocity would be constantly changing. 

On a big wheel ride, the rider will move in a circular path. So, speed can be constant because it does not depend on direction. Velocity however, depends on both magnitude and direction. On a circular path the direction will constantly change, so therefore velocity will constantly be changing.
