Answers to AQA GCSE Energy Resources
Answers to Practice Questions
1.State the definition of an energy resource
An energy resource contains a store of energy that when transferred can be used to generate electricity, heating of homes or transportation.
2. Describe the difference between and energy resource and an energy store.
An energy resource refers to a natural store from which energy can be extracted or harnessed, such as sunlight, wind, or fossil fuels. On the other hand, an energy store is a medium where energy is stored for later use, such as batteries or fuel tanks. While energy resources are the origin of energy, energy stores act as reservoirs for storing and distributing energy.
3. State the definition of a renewable resource
Renewable energy resources are being used at the same rate that they are being produced, so they will not run out.
4.Biogas is produced from the decay of previously living material. Fossil fuels are also formed from previous living organisms. Why is biogas classed as renewable, but fossil fuels are classed as non renewable?
Fossil fuels were formed over millions of years, which is a long time span. It takes too long to form fossil fuels, so they are being used up faster, than they are being produced.
Biogas is formed over a short time period. Therefore it can be produced at the same rate it is being used, so it is renewable
