Answers to AQA GCSE Scalar and Vector Quantities (Combined Science)

Practice Questions

1. Explain the difference between a scalar quantity and a vector quantity

Scalar quantity has a magnitude only, no direction

Vector quantity has a magnitude and a direction

2. Give 3 examples of scalar quantities and 3 examples of vector quantities.

Scalar quantities: time, temperature, mass, density, volume, speed, power and distance

Vector quantities:acceleration, velocity, force, weight, momentum and displacement

3. Draw a vector diagram for an arrow that has a force of 20N at a bearing of 090º and weight force of 5N at a bearing of 180º, using a scale of 1cm = 5N.

One force arrow will point downwards with a length of 1cm, whilst another force arrow will point to the right with a length of 4cm
