Answers to AQA GCSE Current and Electrical Charge (Combined Science)

Practice Questions

1.State which direction conventional current flows.

Conventional current flows from Positive terminal to the negative terminal

2. What makes the current flow around a circuit?

Cell or battery makes the charges flow around a circuit.

3. Why is copper a good conductor of electricity?

Copper is a good conductor of electricity because it contains delocalised electrons which are free to move through the structure.

4. Describe metallic structure.

Metallic Structure is made up of positive metal ions and delocalised electrons.

5. A 3 amp light bulb is switched on for 2 minutes. Calculate the total electrical charge transferred.

The 2 minutes needs to be converted into seconds. So this is 120 seconds

Charge, Q = Current, I x time,t

Charge, Q = 3A x 120 seconds = 360 Coulombs
